Sixteen new medical colleges will be established in Bihar and Maharashtra, adding more MBBS seats.


Expansion of Medical Education: A total of 16 new medical colleges will be established in Bihar and Maharashtra, significantly increasing MBBS seat availability for medical aspirants.

Bihar’s New Medical Colleges:

  • 9 new medical colleges will be set up across Bihar.
  • Samastipur Medical College is expected to start classes next year.
  • Other new colleges in Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Jamui are expected to begin operations in the next 2-3 years.

Maharashtra’s New Medical Colleges:

  • 8 new medical colleges approved, adding a total of 800 government MBBS seats in the state.
  • New medical colleges will be located in Amravati, Washim, Jalna, Buldhana, Hingoli, and Bhandara.
  • Mumbai and Nashik have already been granted permission for new colleges with 50 MBBS seats each.

Increase in Medical Seats Nationwide:

  • The Indian government is working to add 75,000 more medical seats by 2029, following a recent announcement by the Prime Minister.
  • Uttar Pradesh has already added 17 new medical colleges this year, with a vision for ‘One District, One Medical College’.
  • Madhya Pradesh has also added new medical colleges, with a plan to increase the intake capacity by 300 MBBS seats.

A Step Towards Reducing Foreign Education Reliance:

The new medical colleges are part of the government’s initiative to provide better medical education opportunities within the country and reduce the reliance on foreign institutions for middle-class students.
