The Supreme Court has ordered Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences in Dehradun to release the original documents of 91 MBBS students, following a fee dispute. The medical college had retrospectively increased its annual fees, leading to students’ documents being withheld. The SC bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, ruled that the documents be released upon payment of Rs 7.5 lakh, with the students providing an undertaking to settle the outstanding fee arrears. The students, who had completed their MBBS course and internships, challenged the retrospective fee hike, arguing that they were unable to register as medical practitioners or pursue further studies without their documents.
