Maharashtra has introduced a new policy requiring MBBS/BDS students at government and certain private colleges to complete a compulsory one-year social responsibility service post-internship. Students must sign an undertaking agreeing not to leave India for five years, or face a Rs 10 lakh penalty. This rule applies to those receiving fee reimbursements or scholarships. Students at private unaided institutions, however, are exempt from this service requirement. Additionally, a Rs 10 lakh penalty will be imposed for any lapse of MBBS/BDS seats at government institutions. This measure aims to ensure the availability and commitment of medical professionals within the state. For more details, refer to the Information Brochure for NEET UG 2024 Admissions in Maharashtra.
