Is an MBBS degree from Nepal recognized in India

The Nepal Medical Council recently announced that foreign doctors, including IndianNMC registration for foreign doctors graduates, will not have the same status as Nepali medical graduates, raising concerns about their ability to practice in India. The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Foreign Medical Graduates Licenciate Regulations 2021 require foreign medical graduates to be registered with their home country’s regulatory body to practice in India.

The notice emphasized that foreign nationals studying in Nepal must meet local regulatory requirements for enrollment in medical colleges. It clarified that while foreign students can register as foreign doctors, they won’t receive the same recognition as Nepali graduates.

Regulatory Clarity: The NMC stipulates that foreign medical graduates must be registered in their country of study to be eligible for practice in India.
Concerns for Indian Students: If Indian students cannot obtain registration to practice in Nepal, they may not qualify to practice in India either.
Misleading Practices: Some students reported being misled about licensing eligibility, resulting in financial losses and disrupted education.
Private College Responses: The Association of Private Medical and Dental Colleges in Nepal claims that foreign students will be eligible for the same registration as Nepalis, though this is disputed by regulatory bodies.
