FMGE Pass Rate Remains Low: Challenges for Foreign Medical Graduates

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) continues to pose significant challenges for Indian students who have completed their medical education abroad. Despite increased efforts, the pass rate for FMGE remains low, with only 20.19% of students passing the July 2024 session.

Syllabus differences: The curriculum of foreign medical colleges may not align with the FMGE syllabus, leading to knowledge gaps.
Lack of clinical exposure: Limited hands-on training in foreign medical colleges can make it difficult for students to adapt to the practical-oriented FMGE.
Language barriers: Language difficulties can hinder students’ understanding of exam questions.
Unfamiliar exam format: The FMGE exam pattern may be unfamiliar to students from foreign medical colleges.
Despite these challenges, some students have achieved remarkable success in the FMGE. The top scorers in the July 2024 session were from the Davao Medical School Foundation in the Philippines, highlighting the quality of education offered by certain foreign medical institutions.

The low pass rate of FMGE underscores the need for Indian students to carefully consider their choice of medical school and prepare thoroughly for the exam.
